BERG PlayBase Fitness Rope

A suspension trainer for your PlayBase: two straps with handles that hang from the frame and let you train with your own bodyweight.

It isn't a climbing rope. It's the kind of strap trainer you'd see in a gym's functional area, and it covers more exercises than any other accessory in the range.

One accessory, most of a workout

The straps let you train your shoulders, biceps, back and legs. That's close to a full body from something that weighs under a kilo.

• Rows for your back and biceps. Lean back holding the handles and pull yourself up.
• Chest press for chest, shoulders and triceps. Face away and lower yourself forward.
• Curls for biceps.
• Assisted squats and lunges for legs. Hold the handles for balance and go deeper than you could unsupported.

It scales to anyone

This is what makes a suspension trainer worth having. You set the difficulty by changing your body angle. Stand nearly upright and a row is easy. Walk your feet forward until you're almost horizontal and it's hard.

That means the same accessory works for a teenager starting out and a parent who trains regularly, with no weights to change and nothing to adjust between people.

It takes more of the frame than you'd expect

BERG rates the fitness rope as needing three PlayBase bars. A swing seat needs two. You're moving around beneath and in front of it, and you need clear space either side.

• Wall has three bars, so the rope takes the whole frame.
• Medium has four, which leaves room for one small accessory alongside.
• Large and Extra Large take it comfortably next to other accessories.

It's light and comes off in seconds, so on a smaller frame you can hang it up for a session and take it down after. Send us a photo of your frame if you want us to check what fits.

Carabiners aren't included

Carabiner hooks come as standard with a PlayBase frame, but not with accessories bought on their own.

If you're adding the rope to an existing frame and you've no spares, order them at the same time. Ring us and we'll make sure the right ones go in the box.

• Pull-up bar for the pulling work the straps can't do: full hanging pull-ups
