A 12ft trampoline gives generous space for three or four children, is comfortable for adults, and still suits a teenager who's grown out of everything else. It's the size most families choose when the garden can take it.

One thing worth knowing: BERG's nearest size to 12ft is 380cm, which is 12.5ft — so a BERG "12ft" is slightly larger than the imperial figure suggests. That's half a foot in your favour.

Will it fit your garden?

You need 2 metres of clear space on every side, so a 380cm frame wants 8m × 8m of flat clear ground.

Measure your flattest area rather than the whole garden. If that area is 8m × 8m or more, this size works. If it's closer to 7.5m, an 11ft will sit better and still feel enormous to a child.

11ft, 12.5ft or 14ft?

Take the 380 if the garden is 8m square or better, you have three or four children, or you're buying for children who'll still be using it as teenagers. Take the 11ft if the space is tighter or the children are under eight.

And if you have 8.5m, look at the 14ft — half a metre more ground for a noticeably bigger mat and a 120kg weight limit.

Above ground, inground or flatground?

Above ground, a 380cm frame stands about a metre tall. That's a substantial structure in a suburban garden.

InGround drops the mat to 10-20cm above the lawn, which cuts the visual bulk and takes most of the wind out of it — worth thinking about at this size on an exposed site. The pit is 75cm deep and the hole is 340cm across, narrower than the frame.

FlatGround sits completely flush for the cleanest finish, with a metre-deep pit the full width of the frame.

Anchor it

Irish wind moves unanchored trampolines, and storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty. Fit ground anchors the day you assemble it and check them after every named storm.

One at a time

Whatever the size, one jumper at a time is the safest rule. Most trampoline injuries happen with several children on the mat, because a heavier jumper transfers energy into a lighter one. If more than one is on it, keep them similar in size.

Assembly

Allow four to five hours with two adults — this is a substantial trampoline and not a solo job. A spring puller tool makes short work of the spring ring. We can put you in touch with installers across Ireland if you'd rather not.
