Every rectangular trampoline we sell, in one place. In BERG's naming these are the Ultim models — Ultim Favorit, Ultim Champion and Ultim Elite — available above ground and inground.
A rectangular trampoline does two things a round one can't: it fits a garden that's longer than it is wide, and it bounces differently.
Why rectangular?
It fits a strip of garden
A lot of Irish gardens are long and narrow — a row house with a thin plot, or a side garden running along a boundary. A circle wastes the corners of that space. A rectangle uses it.
The practical difference: a 220 × 330cm rectangular frame needs 6.2m of width. A round trampoline with comparable mat area needs over 7m. If your garden is 6.5m across, one of those fits and the other doesn't.
It bounces differently
On a round frame the springs pull inward from every direction, so the bounce always returns you toward the centre. That's forgiving, which is exactly what you want for a five-year-old.
On a rectangular frame the springs run in parallel and the energy stays roughly where you land. More height for the same effort, more control, and the whole mat is usable rather than just the middle. It's why competition trampolines are rectangular, and why gymnasts and cheerleaders train on them.
And the trade-off
More power means less margin for error. A rectangular trampoline isn't the right first trampoline for a young child — the round BERG range is more forgiving, comes in more sizes, and costs less. We'd tell you that on the phone rather than sell you the wrong thing.
Which range?
| Range | Springs | Padding | Frame warranty | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ultim Favorit | Standard | 20mm | 8 years | The value entry into rectangular |
| Ultim Champion | TwinSpring Gold | 35mm | 13 years | Active families, teenagers |
| Ultim Elite | TwinSpring Gold PRO | 40mm | 13 years | Serious jumpers and athletes |
All three use the AirFlow perforated mat in the rectangular models, and all are certified to EN 71-14.
Above ground or inground?
Above ground — stands on legs at around 90cm, assembles in an afternoon, comes apart if you move. The one thing it needs without exception is an anchor kit: a rectangular frame catches more wind for its footprint than a round one, and Irish storms move unanchored trampolines.
InGround — the frame sits in a pit with the mat 20cm above the lawn. Takes the wind out of the equation, shortens the fall, removes the need for a ladder, and looks like a garden feature rather than a structure. It's permanent, and drainage is the part to get right.
FlatGround — completely flush with the grass. The cleanest finish there is, and the deepest groundworks. Best on a level, well-drained site.
Measuring for a rectangle
You need 2 metres of clear space on every side, so add 4 metres to each dimension of the frame — not 2. With a rectangle it's almost always the width that runs out first, so measure that before anything else.
| Frame | Clear space needed |
|---|---|
| 220 × 330cm | 6.2m × 7.3m |
| 250 × 410cm | 6.5m × 8.1m |
| 300 × 500cm | 7m × 9m |
Our trampoline size guide covers measuring properly, or send us the dimensions of your flattest clear area and we'll tell you which fits.
Safety on a rectangular trampoline
The extra height is the thing to plan for. A child confident on a round trampoline will need a fortnight to adjust, and the Deluxe XL net — around 30cm taller than the standard Deluxe — is worth having on anything bigger than the smallest size.
One jumper at a time matters more here than on a round. Most trampoline injuries happen with several people on the mat, because a heavier jumper transfers energy to a lighter one, and rectangular springs deliver more of it.
We don't recommend a rectangular trampoline for children under six.
Not sure whether rectangular is right for your garden? Send us the width and length of your flattest clear area and the ages of the children, and we'll tell you honestly — including if a round suits you better.
