BERG PlayBase Punch Bag

A 21kg bag that hangs from your PlayBase. It's the cardio accessory in the range, and the one that makes the frame a proper garden gym rather than just a pull-up station.

Rated 14+ and 100kg. Like the pull-up bar and dip bar, this is an accessory for teenagers and adults.

Why 21kg matters

A light bag swings away from you after every punch, so you spend the session waiting for it to come back. At 21kg this one stays put and pushes back, which lets you work combinations instead of single shots.

It's heavy enough for adults to train on properly without being so heavy that a 14-year-old can't get anything out of it.

It takes more of the frame than you'd expect

BERG rates the boxing bag as needing three PlayBase bars. A swing seat needs two. A bag moves when it's hit, and it needs clear space around it so it doesn't swing into anything else on the frame, or anyone using it.

What that means for each frame:

• Wall has three bars, so the bag takes the whole frame. That's fine if it's a dedicated training frame, but it won't share.
• Medium has four bars, which leaves room for the bag plus a single small accessory.
• Large and Extra Large are where the bag sits comfortably alongside the children's things.

Carabiners aren't included

Carabiner hooks come as standard with a PlayBase frame, but not with accessories bought on their own.

If you're adding the bag to an existing frame and you've no spares, order them at the same time. Ring us and we'll make sure the right ones go in the box.

What it's good for

Cardio that isn't running. Three-minute rounds on a bag will leave you more out of breath than most people expect, and there's no pounding on your knees.

Shoulders, core and coordination. Punching properly is a full-body movement. The power comes from your legs and hips, not your arms.

Letting off steam. That's BERG's pitch for it, and it's a fair one. Twenty minutes on a bag after a long day does something a treadmill doesn't.

Wear gloves. Bag gloves or wraps protect your wrists and knuckles, and a PU bag lasts longer without bare-knuckle contact.
