The 400kg is a total load rather than per person, which is why several children can use it at once — unlike a trampoline, where one at a time is the rule.

Six carabiner points

Most accessories use two carabiners, so six points is three swing-type accessories — say a swing, a nest swing and gym rings — with room for single-point items like a basketball hoop alongside.

Three is the number where a PlayBase stops being a climbing frame and becomes a garden. Three children, three things, nobody waiting a turn.

It's why the Large sells more than the other three combined. A metre more width than the Medium buys another swing position, and a metre less than the Extra Large saves 1.5m of garden.

Every PlayBase accessory fits every frame, with one exception: the hammock needs the Large.

Worth knowing if a hammock is part of what you're picturing — it's the one thing that decides the size for you.

Every accessory fits

Swings, climbing wall, climbing net, gym rings, trapeze, basketball hoop, soccer goal, boxing bag, dip bar, pull-up bar, fitness rope, resistance bands, baby seat, nest swing, platform and slide — all of them fit this frame.

The one exception across the range is the hammock, which needs the Large frame.

TL, TT or LL?

The frames come with different top sections:

• TL — tumble bar and ladder. The most popular by a distance, and what we'd suggest if you're unsure.
• TT — two tumble bars. For children who spend their time spinning and hanging rather than climbing.
• LL — two ladders. Monkey-bar style, for climbing and traversing.

Available in green or black.

It grows with them

This is why a PlayBase outlasts a swing set. The frame never changes; what hangs off it does.

• Toddler — baby seat, nest swing
• Primary school — monkey bars, climbing wall, trapeze, rings
• Teenager — boxing bag, pull-up bar, basketball hoop
• Adult — gym rings, dip bar, fitness rope, resistance bands

Swap accessories over an afternoon rather than replacing the whole thing.

Space planning

The frame footprint isn't the whole story — allow for what's hanging off it.

• Swings need about 2 metres clear in front and behind for the arc
• Climbing wall wants around 1.5 metres clear and soft ground beneath
• Basketball hoop is better with 3 to 4 metres in front
• Keep it clear of fences and hedges — children swing higher than you expect
