An 8ft trampoline is the right size for a typical Irish suburban garden where space is tight — big enough that children get years out of it, small enough to leave room for everything else.

Will it fit your garden?

You need 2 metres of clear space on every side, so an 8ft frame wants 6.5m × 6.5m of flat clear ground.

Measure your flattest clear area rather than the garden as a whole, and look at what's within 2 metres of the edge — fences, sheds, washing lines, oil tanks and low branches all count.

What we stock at this size

Worth knowing: BERG doesn't make an 8ft trampoline. Their round sizes step from 200cm (6.5ft) to 270cm (9ft), so the nearest options are either side of 8ft.

The Springfree R54 is the true 8ft here, and it has no springs and no hard frame at the mat edge. The BERG 270 is a foot larger and costs less.

If your children are already six or older, the 270 (9ft) is worth the extra foot — it buys several more years before they outgrow it.

BERG Favorit is the value choice and a genuinely good trampoline. Champion is where most Irish families land — better springs, better mat, half again the padding. Elite adds a heavier frame and a 5-year padding warranty.

Above ground or inground?

Above ground, a frame this size sits about 80cm off the lawn and assembles in two to three hours.

InGround brings the mat to 10-20cm above the grass, which matters more at this size than most — a small child can step on and off without a ladder, and you can see them the whole time. It's what we'd suggest if your children are at the younger end.

Anchor it

Irish wind moves unanchored trampolines, and storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty. Fit ground anchors the day you assemble it and check them after every named storm.

One at a time

Whatever the size, one jumper at a time is the safest rule. Most trampoline injuries happen with several children on the mat, because a heavier jumper transfers energy into a lighter one. If more than one is on it, keep them similar in size.
