Rectangular performance, above ground

The BERG Ultim Champion Regular is BERG's rectangular trampoline in a traditional above-ground build. Rectangular trampolines bounce differently to round ones, and if you have a serious jumper in the house — a gymnast, a cheerleader, a teenager who's outgrown a round trampoline — the difference is the whole point.

  • Rectangular bounce with parallel spring arrangement
  • TwinSpring Gold springs
  • AirFlow perforated jump mat
  • Deluxe or Deluxe XL safety net included
  • 13-year frame warranty
  • No excavation — assembles on the lawn
  • Free delivery on orders over €300

Sizes and the space they need

Rectangular trampolines need 2 metres of clearance on all four sides, same as round. Because the frame isn't square, the space you need isn't either.

Size Frame Clear space needed Max user Springs Suits
Compact 220 × 330cm (7 × 11ft) 6.2m × 7.3m 2-3 children, narrow gardens
Medium 250 × 410cm (8 × 13ft) 6.5m × 8.1m 3-4 children, teenagers
Large 300 × 500cm (10 × 16ft) 7m × 9m Serious athletes, large gardens

The Compact is 220cm wide, which fits through most side gates — worth knowing if access to the back garden is tight.

Measure your flattest clear area and check both dimensions. Our trampoline size guide goes through it, or send us your measurements and we'll tell you which fits.

Why rectangular?

On a round trampoline the springs pull inward from every direction, so the bounce always pushes you back toward the centre. That's forgiving, which is why round suits younger children.

On a rectangular trampoline the springs run in parallel, so the energy stays roughly where you land. The bounce is more powerful and more controlled, and you can use the whole mat rather than gravitating to the middle. It's why competitive trampolines are rectangular.

What that means in practice:

  • More height for the same effort
  • Usable bounce across the full mat, not just the centre
  • Better for learning and repeating a specific skill
  • More space for the footprint — no wasted corners

And the trade-off: more power means less margin for error. A rectangular trampoline is not the right first trampoline for a five-year-old. If your children are young and it's for general play, a round Champion is the better buy and we'd tell you so on the phone.

What you're getting

TwinSpring Gold springs

Arranged in parallel rather than radially, heavy gauge, each working independently. This is the component that produces the rectangular bounce characteristic.

AirFlow jump mat

Perforated so displaced air escapes as you land rather than fighting you. Reinforced at the corners and centre, with heavy-duty stitching, and UV-stabilised for outdoor use year round.

Reinforced rectangular frame

Rectangular frames carry stress differently to round ones, concentrated at the corner joints. This one is reinforced there, hot-dip galvanised inside and out, and powder-coated black over the galvanising. 13-year frame warranty covering structural defects and rust.

35mm padding

Full perimeter coverage with extra depth at the corners, double-layered PVC, UV resistant.

Safety net: Deluxe or Deluxe XL

Both come with curved poles positioned outside the jumping area and a self-closing entrance rather than a zip.

  • Deluxe — 180cm high. Fine for recreational use and children up to about 14.
  • Deluxe XL — 210cm high. The extra 30cm matters on a rectangular trampoline, because people genuinely do get higher on them.

Our advice: if anyone in the house is going to practise tricks, or you're buying the Medium or Large, take the XL. On the Compact for younger children the Deluxe is plenty.

Anchoring — not optional

A rectangular trampoline presents more surface area to the wind than a round one of similar footprint, and it sits 95-105cm off the ground. In Irish weather that's a sail.

Fit the anchor kit when you assemble it, check the straps after every named storm, and re-tension anything that's slackened. It takes half an hour and it's the difference between a trampoline in your garden and one in your neighbour's.

Assembly

Three to five hours with two adults depending on size. Rectangular is a bit more involved than round — more frame sections, asymmetric spring pattern, and the tension has to be balanced evenly across a rectangle rather than a circle. All tools are included, the BERG manual is good, and the instructions carry QR codes to video guides.

Roughly: frame and legs first, then springs and mat working opposite corners for even tension, then padding, then the net, then the anchors. Ring us mid-assembly if you get stuck — we'd rather that than you forcing something.

We also work with installers across Ireland if you'd rather it was done for you. Ask when you order and we'll give you a name and a price for your area.

Safety

Always: adult supervision for under-12s, one person on the mat at a time, bare feet or trampoline socks, 2m clearance maintained, anchors fitted.

Never: somersaults without proper coaching, use in high wind, jumping on a wet mat, more than the rated user weight for your size, or jumping off the edge.

The one-at-a-time rule matters more here than on a round trampoline. Most injuries happen with multiple jumpers because a heavier one transfers energy to a lighter one, and rectangular springs deliver more of it.

By age: not recommended under 6 — too much power, buy round instead. From 6 to 10, supervised, building control gradually. From 10 upward is where rectangular comes into its own. Adults up to 100kg are well served, and it's a genuinely good fitness surface.

Maintenance

  • Weekly: clear debris, check the anchor straps
  • Monthly: spring tension (corners first), padding condition, tighten loose bolts, check net attachment points
  • Seasonally: clean the mat properly, inspect the net for tears, re-tension anchors, check the corner joints
  • Annually: full bolt check, inspect every spring, check mat stitching and frame galvanising
  • Winter: brush snow off gently, check anchors after storms. The net stays up — BERG rates it for winter.

Looked after, expect 12-15 years. The wear parts are all replaceable.

Frequently asked questions

Rectangular or round?

Rectangular if there's a serious jumper — gymnastics, cheerleading, a teenager who wants real height — or if your usable garden space is long and narrow. Round if the children are young, it's for general play, or you want the more forgiving bounce. Round is also the cheaper option, and for most families it's the right one.

Is rectangular safe for children?

Yes, with the net, supervision, and one at a time. But it produces more height than round for the same effort, so a child who's confident on a round trampoline will need a fortnight to adjust. We don't recommend it under six.

Will it fit my garden?

Check both dimensions against the table above — the Compact needs 6.2m × 7.3m, not the frame size. Send us your measurements if you're close to the line and we'll tell you honestly.

Do I need the anchor kit?

Yes. Above-ground rectangular trampolines are the most wind-exposed thing we sell. It's the cheapest insurance on the site.

Can adults use it?

Up to 100kg per person, and plenty do — it's an excellent surface for plyometric work and fitness generally.

Deluxe or Deluxe XL net?

XL for the Medium and Large, or anywhere someone will be practising tricks. Deluxe is genuinely good and fine for the Compact with younger children.
