The first trampoline | Toddlers and young children | Small gardens | Free delivery on orders over €300
A 6ft trampoline is the right size for a toddler and a small garden. Compact enough for a city plot or a terraced house, and low enough that a small child can be supervised properly.
It's also the size children outgrow first — worth knowing before you buy.
Will it fit your garden?
You need 2 metres of clear space on every side, so a 6ft frame wants 5.8m × 5.8m of flat clear ground. BERG's nearest size, the 200cm (6.5ft), wants 6m × 6m.
Measure your flattest clear area rather than the whole garden, and check what's within 2 metres of the edge — walls, fences, sheds and washing lines all count. In a small city garden the boundary wall is usually the limiting factor.
What we stock at this size
| Model | Size | Space needed | Max user |
|---|---|---|---|
| BERG Favorit 200 | 200cm (6.5ft) | 6m × 6m | 50kg |
| Springfree R30 Mini Round | 6ft mat | 12ft × 12ft | 50kg, one jumper |
The two manufacturers measure space differently — BERG quotes the clearance you need around the frame, Springfree quotes a total footprint. Both work out at a similar patch of garden.
The Springfree R30 has no springs and no hard frame at the mat edge, which is the strongest safety case at an age when children grab at everything. The BERG 200 costs considerably less.
Both are rated for 50kg
That's the number that decides how long this size lasts. 50kg is roughly an eight-year-old, and it's a hard limit rather than a cautious one.
One child at a time on a trampoline this size. Not a guideline — the mat and springs are sized for a single small jumper, and two children on a 6ft is how injuries happen.
Supervision matters more at this age than at any other. Two to five-year-olds don't self-regulate on a trampoline.
They will outgrow it
Typically by six or seven, sometimes sooner. A 6ft gives you three to five years of use, and then you're buying again.
Worth considering instead: if the garden takes 7m × 7m, a 9ft (270cm) is rated for 70kg and lasts until about ten. If it takes 7.5m, an 11ft is rated for 100kg and most children never outgrow it.
| 6.5ft (200cm) | 9ft (270cm) | 11ft (330cm) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Space needed | 6m × 6m | 7m × 7m | 7.5m × 7.5m |
| Max user weight | 50kg | 70kg | 100kg |
| Suits ages | 2-6 | 4-10 | 5-14 |
| Years of use | 3-5 | 5-7 | 9+ |
A metre and a half of extra garden is the difference between buying once and buying twice. If you have it, use it.
The 6ft is the right answer when the garden genuinely won't take more, or when you want something manageable for a two-year-old and you're content to replace it later.
Above ground or inground?
At this size, inground is worth thinking about more than at any other. The mat sits 10-20cm above the lawn, so a small child steps on rather than climbing, there's no ladder, and you can see them the whole time.
Above ground, a small frame still sits 60-80cm up, which is a climb for a three-year-old and a fall you'd rather avoid.
Anchor it
A small trampoline is lighter, not heavier, so it moves more easily in wind. Fit ground anchors the day you assemble it, and check them after every named storm.
Storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty. Our anchoring guide covers every surface.
What's included
- Frame, jumping mat and springs
- Full safety net enclosure
- Frame padding
- Assembly tools and instructions
- Manufacturer warranty — 8 years on a BERG frame with registration, 10 years on all parts with Springfree
Anchor kits are sold separately and we'd recommend adding one.
