Springfree R79 Medium Round — 10ft
The middle of the Springfree round range, and the one most Irish families end up choosing. Big enough that children won't outgrow it in three years, small enough for a normal suburban garden. Same springless construction as the rest of the range — no springs, no hard frame edge, nothing at the mat edge to land on.
Will it fit your garden?
Springfree specifies 16ft × 16ft — about 4.9m × 4.9m — for the R79, including clearance.
That's less than a spring trampoline with a 10ft mat would need. Because the FlexiNet flexes rather than stopping a jumper dead, and there's no rigid frame or spring ring at the mat edge, Springfree can specify a tighter footprint than a conventional trampoline of the same size.
Measure your flattest clear area and check what sits inside that square — fences, walls, sheds, washing lines and low branches all count.

Springfree rates the 79 sq ft jumping surface as comparable to a 12ft spring trampoline, because a spring model loses a band around the outside to springs and padding that this doesn't have.
Why this is the size most people land on
The R54 at 8ft is a good trampoline for younger children, but a ten-year-old will find it small. The R132 Jumbo at 13ft is superb and needs a 19ft × 19ft space, which rules out most suburban gardens.
The R79 sits between them. It takes a 16ft square, which a typical Irish back garden can find, and the mat is big enough that children going from six to sixteen won't outgrow it. That combination is why it's the one we recommend most often when someone rings and describes an ordinary garden.
Stepping up to 700kg tested load from the R54's 600kg also means it handles older children and adults more comfortably.
What makes it a Springfree
- Flexible composite mat rods instead of springs, sitting beneath the mat and out of reach. No pinch points, and individually replaceable if one breaks.
- SoftEdge mat extending to the edge of the jumping area. Springfree rates it as 30 times more shock-absorbent than conventional safety padding.
- Hidden galvanised steel frame, positioned below and outside the jumping surface.
- FlexiNet enclosure with flexible poles that cushion a jumper rather than stopping them dead, fitted inside the mat edge so nobody can land between mat and net.
- 10-year warranty on all parts, not just the frame.
Springfree's own claim is that the design eliminates 90% of product-related trampoline injuries.
Assembly and siting
Springfree trampolines take longer to put together than spring models — the rods fit individually and they're under tension, which is the fiddly part. Springfree's free BILT app gives 3D step-by-step instructions with voice guidance, and it's considerably easier to follow than the paper manual.
Set it on level ground. If your lawn slopes, sort that first — our guide to levelling a Springfree on uneven ground covers the options.
On an exposed or coastal site, fit ground anchors. A 9ft-tall enclosure catches wind whatever the frame is made of.
Worth adding
- FlexrStep ladder — with a child safety lock, so it can't be used unsupervised
- FlexrHoop — soft-material basketball hoop, no hard surfaces
- Sunshade — the R79 takes the 2.7m size
- Shifting wheels — for moving it to cut the grass underneath
- Weather cover and ground anchors

Common questions
R79 or R54?
R79 unless your garden genuinely can't take a 16ft square, or the children are all under about six. The extra mat area is the difference between a trampoline they use for four years and one they use for ten.
R79 or R132 Jumbo?
The Jumbo is a better trampoline and needs a 19ft × 19ft space. If you have that, look at it. Most people don't, which is why the R79 exists.
Can adults use it?
Yes — 700kg tested load, and the springless bounce suits adults well. One at a time, as on any trampoline.
Can I leave it out over winter?
Yes, it's built for year-round outdoor use. Keep leaves and standing water off the mat, and see our winter care guide if you'd rather pack it away.
What's the model code for ordering parts?
R79. Note it somewhere — Springfree parts are model-specific, and the R79 came in two builds with different rod counts, so we'll ask you to count the rods if you don't have the serial number.
Not sure between the R54, R79 and R132? Send us your garden dimensions and the ages of the children, and we'll tell you which fits and which they'll still be using in ten years.
