BERG PlayBase Trapeze
A steel trapeze bar with extra-grip handles, height-adjustable, and rated for 80kg — so it holds a teenager, not just a small child.
It's the accessory for children who'd rather hang upside down than sit down, and the closest thing to real gymnastics apparatus you'll get in a garden.

What it's actually for
Three things, and children find all of them without being shown.
Hanging. Grip strength, shoulders, and the simple business of holding your own weight — which is harder than it looks and improves fast.
Upside down. Hooking the knees over the bar and hanging backwards is the first thing most children try and the thing they keep doing.
Skills. Sitting on the bar, pulling up to it, and eventually turning over it. If there's a child in the house doing gymnastics or dance, this is the accessory that gets used daily.
The 80kg limit means it doesn't stop being useful at ten.
Grip and adjustment
Extra-grip handles — it's a steel bar, and a bare steel bar is cold, slippery in the wet and hard on the hands. The grips are what make it usable in Irish weather.
Height-adjustable ropes. Set it low for a three-year-old to reach, raise it as they grow, and raise it again when they start turning over it and need clearance.
Carabiners aren't included
Carabiner hooks come as standard with a PlayBase frame, but not with accessories bought on their own.
If you're adding this to an existing frame and you've no spares, order them at the same time. Ring us and we'll make sure the right ones go in the box.
Space beneath it
More than a swing needs. A child hanging upside down or turning over the bar wants clear ground underneath and nothing within reach on either side.
Worth setting it at the end of the frame rather than the middle, with the landing area on grass.
Already have a different playset?
BERG's trapeze isn't limited to the PlayBase — it'll hang from most frames with suitable attachment points. If you've a wooden swing set and you want something beyond a seat, this is the cheapest way to change what it does.
Send us a photo of your frame and we'll tell you whether it'll work.
Worth adding
- Gym rings — the natural pairing, and adults use them too
- Swing seat — for the days they'd rather sit
- Nest swing — 150kg, and two children can share it
- Climbing wall — if they're climbing anyway
