The Champion range at a glance

Three shapes, three installations. In BERG's naming, Grand means oval and Ultim means rectangular. You're looking at the round, inground model.

Sizes and the space they need

Every trampoline needs 2 metres of clear space on all sides, so the ground you need is the diameter plus 4 metres.

The hole is narrower than the frame — the legs rest on ground at the rim, so you dig inside the trampoline's footprint. Measure your flattest clear area and subtract 4 metres from each dimension — what's left is the largest diameter that fits. This matters more than usual with an inground trampoline, because the pit is permanent. Send us your measurements and we'll confirm before you dig. Full detail in our size guide.

Why inground

• Shorter fall. 10-20cm to the grass rather than a metre. It's the single biggest safety difference between inground and above ground.
• Far less wind load. A low frame gives an Atlantic gale very little to catch, which is why it's the usual choice on exposed and coastal sites. It rarely needs anchoring.
• Easy access. A step rather than a climb, from any side. No ladder needed, and small children can get on unaided.
• It doesn't dominate the garden. Garden furniture can sit near the edge, and it reads as a feature rather than equipment.

Against FlatGround, which sits completely flush, InGround needs a shallower pit and simpler groundworks. Against above ground, it's permanent — that's the trade.

Why round

On a round frame the springs pull inward from every direction, so the bounce keeps returning you toward the centre. That's forgiving, which is exactly what you want for children learning — and it's why round is the most common shape in family gardens.

A round also fits a square garden efficiently and positions easily anywhere on a lawn.

If your space is longer than it is wide, the Grand Champion oval uses it better. If there's a serious jumper who wants real height and control, the Ultim Champion rectangular is the one — more power, less margin for error, and not the right first trampoline for a young child.

What Champion specification means

TwinSpring springs

A V-shaped double spring arrangement rather than single springs. More springs around the frame, arranged to spread load, which gives a smoother bounce and a longer service life than a budget trampoline's spring ring. Springs are covered for 5 years, and they're individually replaceable when the time comes.

AirFlow Pro jump mat

Perforated, so displaced air escapes as you land rather than fighting you. Two side effects worth having in Ireland: it dries faster after rain, and wind passes through rather than pushing against it. UV-stabilised with heavy-duty stitching.

30mm padding

Double-layered PVC over a closed-cell foam core that doesn't hold water, with a UV-resistant coating. Two-year warranty and replaceable.

Galvanised steel frame

Hot-dip galvanised inside and out, then powder-coated black over that. Two layers of protection, which is what the 13-year rust warranty rests on.

Safety net: Deluxe or Deluxe XL

• Deluxe — 180cm, curved poles positioned outside the jumping area, self-closing entrance rather than a zip. Right for children up to about 14 and recreational use.
• Deluxe XL — 210cm, around 30cm taller. Worth it for teenagers who get real height, or anyone practising tricks.

Both are included in the price depending on which you choose, and both carry a 2-year warranty.

Installation

The hole dimensions for each model are in the table above. Depth is 75cm across all three sizes, against a full metre for FlatGround, which is why InGround is the more feasible of the two for most sites — including where the water table is high.

Drainage matters. Irish clay doesn't drain freely, and a pit without drainage fills after heavy rain.

Worth adding

• Ladder — less essential than on an above-ground model, but it stops children climbing the padding to get on, which wears it where it protects the frame.
• BERG Levels game — LED lights and app challenges in the mat.
• TwinHoop basketball — twin hoops on the net poles, about twenty minutes to fit. Needs a Deluxe or Deluxe XL net.
• Weather cover — worth it if there are trees overhead or it's idle over winter. Most people don't bother, and that's a reasonable call.
• Anchor kit — rarely needed on an inground installation, since the pit holds the frame. Worth considering on a very exposed coastal or hilltop site.

Maintenance

• Weekly: clear debris, and check for water pooling — that's your early warning on drainage
• Monthly: spring tension, padding condition, drainage clear, clean the mat
• Seasonally: deep clean, inspect the net for tears, check the frame, tighten loose bolts
• Annually: full bolt check, inspect every spring, check the mat stitching and net pole security

Looked after, expect 12-15 years. Mats, nets, springs and padding are all replaceable.

Safety

Always: adult supervision for under-12s, one person on the mat at a time, bare feet or trampoline socks, nothing sharp in pockets, 2m clearance maintained.

Never: somersaults without coaching, use in high wind, jumping on a wet mat, more than the rated user weight for your size, or jumping off the edge.

One at a time is the rule that matters most. Most trampoline injuries happen with several people on the mat, because a heavier jumper transfers energy to a lighter one.

Frequently asked questions

InGround or above ground?

InGround for a permanent home, a garden where looks matter, an exposed site, or younger children. Above ground if you're renting, might move, want it up this weekend, or don't want to excavate.

Round, oval or rectangular?

Round for a square garden and mixed ages — the most forgiving bounce. Grand (oval) if your space is a strip. Ultim (rectangular) for serious jumpers.

What size should I get?

Garden first, family second. Measure the flattest clear area and subtract 4 metres each way; that gives your maximum. Within that, 11ft suits two or three children, 12.5ft is the one most Irish families settle on, and 14ft suits a big family or older teenagers.

Do I need professional installation?

It depends on your soil and your appetite for groundworks. On clay, the drainage is the part worth paying for. On free-draining soil with access to a mini-digger, plenty of people do it themselves over a weekend.

Do I need to anchor it?

Generally no — the pit holds the frame, which is one of the real advantages over an above-ground model. On a very exposed coastal or hilltop site, it's worth doing anyway.

Can adults use it?

Yes — 100kg per person on the 11ft and 12.5ft, 120kg on the 14ft. The Champion is the range we'd point adults at.

Will it rust?

Hot-dip galvanised inside and out with powder coating over that, and a 13-year warranty covering rust. What causes trouble isn't the steel — it's water sitting in a badly drained pit.
