Padding is the component that takes the weather. Elite's is the same thickness as Champion's — 30mm over the frame, 20mm over the springs, 38cm wide in 0.55mm PVC — with enhanced UV treatment and two and a half times the warranty cover. That's BERG's own judgement on how much longer it lasts.

Sizes and the space they need

Two metres of clear space on all sides. With an oval, check the width as well as the length — it's usually the width that runs out.

Oval or round?

It's about shape, not size. An oval and a round of comparable area give much the same amount of mat — what differs is the ground each needs.

A 470 × 310cm oval needs 7.1m of width. A 12.5ft round needs 8m for near-identical jumping area. If your usable garden is a strip rather than a square, that metre is the difference between fitting and not.

The bounce differs slightly too. On a round the springs pull inward from every direction, returning you to the centre. On an oval they run closer to parallel along the length, so energy stays nearer where you land and the full length of the mat is usable.

Take the round if your space is closer to square, or you want a smaller size — round starts at 11ft.

Why above ground

• Up this weekend. No digging, all tools in the box, children on it the same day.
• It moves with you. The right choice if you're renting or might move within a few years.
• No groundworks cost. The trampoline is the whole expense.
• Easy to maintain. You can get underneath it.

The trade-off is height and wind. At around a metre off the lawn it's a visible structure, and it must be anchored. If neither suits, the Grand Elite InGround sits 10-20cm above the grass instead.

Elite specification

TwinSpring springs

A V-shaped double spring arrangement rather than single springs, spreading load around the frame. Smoother bounce, more usable mat, and a longer service life. Covered for 5 years and individually replaceable.

AirFlow Pro jump mat

Perforated, so displaced air escapes as you land rather than fighting you. It also dries faster after rain and lets wind pass through rather than pushing against it. UV-stabilised with reinforced stitching.

Padding — 5-year warranty

30mm over the frame, 20mm over the springs, 38cm wide, in 0.55mm PVC with enhanced UV treatment. Same 30mm thickness and 38cm width as Champion, and the same AirFlow Pro mat and TwinSpring springs. What Elite adds is a heavier frame and a 5-year padding warranty against Champion's 2.

Galvanised steel frame

Large-diameter, thick-walled tubing, hot-dip galvanised with a black powder coat over it. Two layers of protection, and the basis of the 13-year rust warranty.

Anchor it the day you build it

This is a large above-ground frame with a net on top. In Irish wind that's a sail, and weight is not what holds it down.

Fit ground anchors as soon as it's assembled and check them after every named storm. If you'll be moving it to mow, the 4-pack with straps unclips in seconds. Storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty.

Assembly

Allow a good few hours and get three people if you can. All tools are in the box and there are QR codes to video guides. Lay the frame sections out in the oval before you start, work opposite sides when fitting the springs, and a spring puller tool turns the spring ring into the quickest part of the job.

Common questions

Does the oval give more jumping area than a round?

No — an oval and a round of comparable size are within a fraction of each other. The oval's advantage is that it needs less width for the same area, and gives more length to bounce along.

How does Elite compare to Champion?

Same 13-year frame warranty and 5-year springs. The padding is covered for 5 years against Champion's 2, with enhanced UV treatment — that's the difference, and it shows over a decade.

Above ground or InGround?

Above ground if you might move or would rather not excavate. InGround if this is a permanent home or the site is exposed.

Can adults use it?

Yes. 120kg per person on the largest oval; ring us for the smaller sizes. One at a time.
