Collection: How to choose the right trampoline for your garden space
Tips for Getting the Best Trampoline Fit for Your Garden
There are many reasons why a trampoline might be right for your family. Your children might enjoy bouncing, but you want a safe area for them to bounce outside of your property.
Or one of the kids might have decided to start gymnastics and they want to practice on a trampoline. Whatever the reason why you have decided to purchase a trampoline, you need to ensure you choose one which is appropriate for your household.
You don’t want to find that it needs to be returned because it doesn’t fit or isn’t appropriate in your garden. Therefore, here is how to choose the right trampoline for your garden space.
1. Decide on an area of the garden first
Before you get a trampoline, you need to decide where you will put the trampoline in the garden. You will need an area of your garden which is free of shrubs and bushes to safely put the trampoline. After all, you don’t want to find that your netting on the trampoline gets damaged due to the plants.
Also, you need to place the trampoline as far away from where leaves land as possible. Otherwise, you will be constantly be clearing leaves off the mat before your kids can jump. And you might not realise that leaves on the trampoline can cause excess moisture which can damage the mat. Avoid under trees with low branches as your child might get harmed if they jump and hit the branches.
You want to place it in an area free of other equipment such as climbing frames, slides and swings. It needs to be a safe distance from fences and outbuildings such as garden rooms and sheds. That way, they won’t end up hurting themselves if they do fall from the trampoline. You should make sure the trampoline is also in eye view of the window inside the house.
That way, you can keep an eye on them while jumping in the garden. And ensure it’s away from outside flooring such as stones or concrete which could also injure your child when they are getting on and off the trampoline. It’s best to try to go for an area that has 1.5 space on all sides of the trampoline. Once you know which area of the garden you want to place the trampoline, it will make it much easier to find the right one for your space in the garden
2. Next, you need to measure the size of the space
When you have decided where you would like to place the trampoline, you should then think about the size of the space. That will ensure you get the right-sized trampoline for your garden space. After all, you don’t want to end up trying to fit a 10ft trampoline in a limited area.
Therefore, when you have the intended area, grab some string and measure it out to the diameter of a trampoline you are looking at. You can then place this around a pencil with a drawing pin to keep it in position and put it outside in the centre of the area you are looking at placing the trampoline.
You can then walk around the area using the string as your guide and mark out the space. You will soon see if you have adequate space and which trampoline size to go for. You might find that you have more space than you thought so you can get a bigger size. But it will also stop you from going for something which is not appropriate for your shape.
3. You need to also consider the height
Before you purchase a trampoline for your garden, it’s also worth stopping to check if it’s going to be appropriate for the height of your fence. After all, you don’t want to end up with a trampoline much higher than your fence. It tends to be that an 8ft trampoline is around 243cm in height and a 10ft trampoline is 305cm in height.
By using this as your guide, you can then measure your fence to help you make a decision on which trampoline is suitable for your garden. And you won’t run into trouble with your neighbours too with your new trampoline if it’s higher than your fence.
4. Check out various shapes for your garden
When finding the right trampoline for your garden, you should also think about the shape. After all, there might be a particular shape of trampoline that will work best in your garden. There are three main shapes of trampoline that people buy for their garden.
A traditional round shape, a rectangular shape and an oval shape. The round shape is the one most commonly found in back gardens and is great for a family. But an oval shape offers more room and is good if more than one person is going to jump at once.
Meanwhile, a rectangle is great if your little one is going to be learning how to jump at a competitive level. You can work out which one will fit properly in your garden and what shape will also work best for your family. After all, you don’t want to choose a rectangle if it’s going to be too big for your garden space.
Wait...will you be moving home?
Another thing to think about when purchasing a trampoline for your garden is if you will be moving in the next few years. A trampoline is an investment piece that your children will use for the next few years.
A lot of trampolines can last until they are over 10 years old. Therefore, you want to ensure that the trampoline you buy is appropriate for any garden you move to in the immediate future so that you don’t have to purchase another one sooner rather than later.
So while you need to consider if it’s appropriate for your current space, do think ahead if you are going to buy a larger size for your garden.
