How to Measure a Trampoline (and Your Garden for One)
✍️ Gary and the Trampolines Ireland Team — Ireland's leading trampoline experts!
A trampoline's size is the diameter of its frame, measured across the centre from the outside edge of the frame to the outside edge opposite. For a rectangular or oval trampoline, measure the length and width of the frame. To see what fits your garden, add 2 metres of clear space on every side.
Measuring your garden for a new trampoline
- Find your flattest clear area. Not the whole garden: the level patch with nothing in it. A trampoline needs level ground.
- Measure its length and width. Use a long tape, or pace it out and check with a tape afterwards.
- Take off 2 metres on every side. That's 4 metres off both the length and the width. What's left is the biggest frame that fits. Fences, walls, sheds, oil tanks and patios all count as obstacles.
- Look up. Branches, washing lines and cables over the trampoline are a hazard, because jumpers get real height.
| Clear, flat space | Biggest round trampoline |
|---|---|
| 6m × 6m | 6.5ft (BERG 200) |
| 7m × 7m | 9ft (BERG 270) or 10ft |
| 7.5m × 7.5m | 11ft (BERG 330) |
| 8m × 8m | 12.5ft (BERG 380) |
| 8.5m × 8.5m | 14ft (BERG 430) |
Long and narrow rather than square? A rectangular or oval trampoline makes better use of the space. Not sure of the size for your family? See what size trampoline for 1 to 5 kids.
Measuring an existing trampoline for replacement parts
If you're replacing a mat, net, padding or springs, you need the exact size and, ideally, the model.
Frame diameter
Measure straight across the centre, from the outside edge of the frame tube to the outside edge opposite. BERG round sizes are given in centimetres: 200, 270, 330, 380 and 430cm (6.5ft, 9ft, 11ft, 12.5ft and 14ft).
Rectangular and oval frames
Measure the frame's length and width, outside edge to outside edge.
Springs
Count the springs around the edge, and measure one spring from hook to hook with the trampoline unloaded. There's no need to take the mat off to count them.
Safety net
Count the net poles, and note whether the net attaches inside or outside the springs.
Send us a photo
If there's a label or sticker anywhere on the frame or legs, photograph it. That, plus your measurements and a photo of the whole trampoline, is usually enough for us to match parts exactly. We carry one of the largest stocks of genuine BERG parts in Ireland, and order Springfree parts in from Springfree UK.
Frequently asked questions
How do you measure a trampoline?
Measure the frame straight across the centre, from outside edge to outside edge. That's the trampoline's size. For rectangular or oval trampolines, measure the frame's length and width.
Is a trampoline measured by the mat or the frame?
By the frame. The mat is smaller, because the springs and padding sit between it and the frame.
How much space do you need around a trampoline?
2 metres of clear space on every side, with nothing overhead. A 12.5ft trampoline needs about 8m × 8m in total.
What size is a 380 trampoline?
BERG sizes are in centimetres. A 380 is 380cm across the frame, about 12.5ft.
