The step up to Champion buys you TwinSpring double springs with a 5-year warranty rather than 2, the perforated AirFlow mat, padding half again as thick and a third wider, and five more years of frame cover. If the trampoline will be used most days or there are teenagers in the house, that's the sensible buy.

Favorit is the right choice if the children are young, use will be a few times a week, or budget is the deciding factor. It's a genuinely good trampoline — plenty of Irish families buy a Favorit and are still happy with it eight years later.

Shapes and sizes

In BERG's naming, Grand means oval and Ultim means rectangular.

Round for a square garden and younger children — the bounce returns you toward the centre, which is the most forgiving. Oval for a garden longer than it is wide. Rectangular for a narrow strip, or for a jumper who wants more height.

The 200cm is rated for 50kg — roughly an eight-year-old. It's genuinely a toddler trampoline and a child will outgrow it, which is worth knowing before buying it for a six-year-old. More in our guide to BERG weight limits.

What size fits your garden?

You need 2 metres of clear space on every side, so measure your flattest clear area and subtract 4 metres from each dimension. What's left is the largest diameter that fits.

Above ground or InGround?

Regular (above ground) — stands on legs at 80-90cm. Assembles in an afternoon with no digging, comes apart if you move house, and you can get underneath it to maintain it. The one thing it needs without exception is an anchor kit.

InGround — the frame sits in a pit with the mat 10-20cm above the lawn. Far less wind to catch, a shorter fall if someone leaves the mat, no ladder needed, and it reads as a garden feature rather than equipment. It's permanent, and the ground needs to drain.

Anchoring is not optional in Ireland

A trampoline is a large, light structure with a net on top. Irish winds routinely reach the point where an unanchored one lifts, and every winter brings the same reports — through a fence, onto a car, two gardens over.

Weight is not what keeps it down. Fit ground anchors the day you assemble it, and check them after every named storm. Storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty.

Looking after it

The frame is what lasts — that's what the warranty covers. Mats, nets, springs and padding are wear items, and all of them are individually replaceable. A BERG rarely dies; it needs parts.

• Monthly: clear debris, check the anchors are tight, look over the padding
• Quarterly: tighten bolts, inspect the net for tears
• Annually: deep clean, check every spring and the mat stitching
• Winter: brush heavy snow off the mat. The trampoline stays out — it's built for it.

Small tears in a mat or net are worth catching early. A repair kit costs a fraction of a replacement and takes twenty minutes.

Common questions

Is a BERG Favorit worth it against a budget trampoline?

If it'll be used for years, yes — the frame carries an 8-year warranty and every wear part is replaceable, so it rarely needs replacing outright. If you're testing whether a trampoline gets used at all, a cheaper one is a defensible choice and we'd say so.

Will children outgrow the Favorit?

Check the weight limit for the size rather than the range. A 430cm Favorit takes 120kg, the same as the larger Champions — it's the smaller sizes that get outgrown, not the range.

Do I really need an anchor kit?

Yes. Irish wind moves unanchored trampolines, including heavy ones, and storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty.

InGround or Regular?

InGround for a permanent home, an exposed site, or younger children. Regular if you're renting, might move, or would rather not excavate. Factor the groundworks into the comparison, not just the trampoline.

Can it stay outside all year?

Yes — it's designed for year-round outdoor use. Keep it anchored, brush heavy snow off the mat, and expect 10-15 years.

Should I get Favorit or Champion?

Favorit for younger children and lighter use. Champion if it'll be used most days or there are teenagers. Tell us the ages and how often it'll be used and we'll give you a straight answer.
