Getting to Know Scoil Mhuire, Mooncoin
As Kathy Egan, from Scoil Mhuire NS, Mooncoin explains -
"Scoil Mhuire NS is a co-educational, Catholic Primary School located in the village of Mooncoin.
In September 2016, Scoil Mhuire NS was formed following the amalgamation of the Boys and Girls' primary schools in Mooncoin; Scoil Mhuire Lourdes BNS and Presentation Convent GNS.
We enrol boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 12 and currently cater for 284 children. We have 13 class teachers, five SET teachers and 7 SNAs.
Our Junior campus caters for Junior Infants to 2nd class.
Our Sonas Special Class for children with a diagnosis of ASD, which opened in September 2020.
The school is under the patronage of the Archbishop of Ossory.
We adhere to the principles and aims of the Revised Curriculum and we hope that the education we provide is a good preparation for the children as they embrace the future while also providing them with knowledge understanding and appreciation of times past.
We pride ourselves on our commitment to Anti-Bullying and participate in Green Flag, Active Flag, Health Promotion and Science and Technology Awards.
While Scoil Mhuire NS is a school with a Catholic ethos, it also has due recognition for and welcomes all other religions.
We welcome all children to our school, regardless of religion and we hope that the education they receive is reflective of virtues such as tolerance, friendship, honesty, compassion and courage which we strongly promote.
As a school, the education we provide is underpinned by a strong ethical and moral responsibility to the preparation of children for their lives ahead and the opportunities and challenges they will meet.
The Board of Management of Scoil Mhuire N.S. is supported by an active Parent Association. Mooncoin is a historic village in South Kilkenny in the valley of the River Suir along the busy N24. We are 10km north of Waterford City and 48km south of Kilkenny City.
How the Kids from Scoil Mhuire Might Benefit From A New Trampoline?
The addition of a trampoline to the Sonas class playground will be invaluable.
Each child enrolled in our Special class will have daily access to the trampoline which would be strongly recommended by the OTs working with the students as part of their daily movement breaks.
We also cater for many children throughout our mainstream cohort who have additional needs and the access to a trampoline of this quality will be invaluable for their physical development and daily supervised exercise.
We'd like to say a huge thank you to all those involved in this initiative and feel very lucky to have been included. We will send lots of photos and post lots of updates on our school social media accounts to thank Bounce for Autism and Trampolines Ireland for your generosity."
