Drive Systems Explained
Direct Drive
The chain connects the crankshaft directly to the rear axle. Pedals always move when the go-kart moves. Children brake by holding the pedals still. This is the simplest system — ideal for young children (ages 2–6) learning to pedal. Used on: Buzzy, Buzzy 2-in-1, Reppy.
BFR (Brake, Freewheel, Reverse)
BERG's patented system. Brake: backpedal to stop. Freewheel: pedals stay still while wheels keep spinning (coasting). Reverse: after stopping, backpedal to go backwards. This unique combination is found only on BERG go-karts. Used on: Buddy, Rally, Street-X, Choppy Neo, XL Chopper, all XL/XXL BFR models.
BFR-3 (BFR + 3 Gears)
Same BFR system plus three gears for easier pedalling on hills, slopes, and varied terrain. Costs approximately €270–€370 more than the equivalent BFR model. Used on: Rally BFR-3 models, all XL BFR-3 models.
E-BFR (Electric Pedal-Assist)
The ultimate drive system. A 250W mid-motor with torque sensor amplifies your pedalling effort — the harder you pedal, the more electric assistance you receive.
