The Champion range at a glance

Three shapes, two installations. In BERG's naming, Grand means oval and Ultim means rectangular. You're looking at the round, above-ground model.

Sizes and the space they need

Every trampoline needs 2 metres of clear space on all sides, so the ground you need is the diameter plus 4 metres.

Measure your flattest clear area and subtract 4 metres from each dimension — what's left is the largest diameter that fits. Also check overhead: branches and washing lines are the things people forget. Full detail in our size guide, or send us your measurements.

Why above ground

• Up this weekend. Two to three and a half hours with two adults depending on size. No digging, all tools in the box, children on it the same day.
• It moves with you. Comes apart and goes back together. The right choice if you're renting or might move within a few years.
• No groundworks cost. The trampoline is the whole expense — no pit, no digger hire, no drainage.
• Easy to maintain. You can get underneath it. Springs, mat and padding are all straightforward to reach and replace.

The trade-off is height and wind. At around a metre off the lawn it's a visible structure, and it must be anchored. If neither suits, the Champion InGround sits 10-20cm above the grass instead.

Why round

On a round frame the springs pull inward from every direction, so the bounce keeps returning you toward the centre. Forgiving, self-correcting, and the right choice for children still learning control — which is why round is the most common shape in family gardens.

It also fits any garden layout and positions easily anywhere on a lawn.

If your space is longer than it is wide, the Grand Champion oval uses it better. If there's a serious jumper who wants real height, the Ultim Champion rectangular is the one — more power, less margin for error, and not the right first trampoline for a young child.

What Champion specification means

TwinSpring springs

A V-shaped double spring arrangement rather than single springs, spreading load around the frame. Smoother bounce, more usable mat, and a longer service life than a budget trampoline's spring ring. Covered for 5 years and individually replaceable.

AirFlow Pro jump mat

Perforated, so displaced air escapes as you land rather than fighting you. Two useful side effects in Ireland: it dries faster after rain, and wind passes through rather than pushing against it. UV-stabilised with heavy-duty stitching.

30mm padding

30mm over the frame, 20mm over the springs, 38cm wide, in 0.55mm PVC. A third wider and considerably heavier material than the Favorit's. Two-year warranty, and replaceable.

Galvanised steel frame

Hot-dip galvanised inside and out, then powder-coated black over that. Two layers of protection, which is what the 13-year rust warranty rests on.

Safety net: Deluxe or Deluxe XL

• Deluxe — 180cm, curved poles positioned outside the jumping area so nobody can hit them, self-closing entrance rather than a zip that breaks or gets left open. Right for children up to about 14.
• Deluxe XL — 210cm, around 30cm taller. Worth it for teenagers who get real height, or anyone practising tricks.

Both carry a 2-year warranty and attach every 15cm around the frame.

Anchor it the day you build it

An above-ground trampoline stands about a metre off the lawn with a net on top. In Irish wind that's a sail, and weight is not what holds it down — every winter brings reports of unanchored trampolines through fences and onto cars.

Fit ground anchors as soon as it's assembled and check them after every named storm. If you'll be moving it to mow, the 4-pack with straps unclips in seconds. Our anchoring guide covers every surface, including patios and gravel where ground stakes won't hold.

Worth knowing: storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty.

Assembly

Two to three and a half hours with two adults, depending on size. All tools are in the box, the manual is good, and there are QR codes to video guides throughout.

Roughly: frame and legs first, then springs and mat working opposite sides so the tension stays even, then padding, then the net, then the anchors. A spring puller tool turns the spring ring — the longest part of the job — into the quickest.

Worth adding

• Ladder — at 95-105cm, children under about ten will otherwise climb the padding to get on, which wears it where it protects the frame. This size takes the Ladder L.
• BERG Levels game — LED lights and app challenges in the mat.
• TwinHoop basketball — twin adjustable hoops on the net poles, about twenty minutes to fit. Needs a Deluxe or Deluxe XL net.
• Weather cover — most people don't bother, and that's a reasonable call. Worth it if there are trees overhead or it's idle from November to March.

Maintenance

• Weekly: clear debris, quick look over, check the anchor straps are tight
• Monthly: spring tension, padding condition, tighten loose bolts, check net attachment points
• Seasonally: deep clean the mat, inspect the net for tears, re-tension the anchors
• Annually: full bolt check, inspect every spring, check mat stitching and net pole security
• Winter: brush heavy snow off gently, check anchors after storms. The net stays up — BERG rates it for winter.

Looked after, expect 12-15 years. Mats, nets, springs and padding are all replaceable.

Warranty

Covered: manufacturing defects, material failures, galvanising issues, frame problems, spring breakage in normal use.

Not covered: storm damage to an unanchored trampoline, damage from exceeding the weight limit or having several people on it, neglect, or accidents.

Safety

Always: adult supervision for under-12s, one person on the mat at a time, bare feet or trampoline socks, nothing sharp in pockets, a dry mat, 2m clearance all round and clear space overhead, anchors fitted.

Never: somersaults without coaching, use in high wind, jumping on a wet mat, more than the rated user weight for your size, pets on the mat, or jumping off the edge.

One at a time is the rule that matters most. Most trampoline injuries happen with several people on the mat, because a heavier jumper transfers energy to a lighter one.

By age: under six, supervised and gentle only. Six to ten is the ideal age group. Ten to fourteen can generally be trusted once the rules are established. Adults are fine up to 100kg.

Frequently asked questions

Above ground or InGround?

Above ground if you want it up this weekend, you're renting or might move, or you'd rather not excavate. InGround if this is a permanent home, the garden's appearance matters, the site is exposed, or a shorter fall height is the priority.

Do I really need the anchor kit?

Yes. Irish wind moves unanchored trampolines, including heavy ones, and storm damage to an unanchored trampoline isn't covered by the warranty. It's the cheapest insurance you'll buy.

What size should I get?

Garden first, family second. Measure the flattest clear area and subtract 4 metres each way — that gives your maximum. Within that, 11ft suits two or three children, 12.5ft is what most Irish families settle on, and 14ft suits a big family or older teenagers.

Can I assemble it myself?

Most people do. Two adults, two to three and a half hours, all tools provided. The spring ring is the awkward part and a spring puller makes short work of it.

Can adults use it?

Yes — 100kg per person on the 11ft and 12.5ft, 120kg on the 14ft. A good low-impact surface for fitness. One at a time, as on any trampoline.

Will it rust?

Hot-dip galvanised inside and out with powder coating over that, and a 13-year warranty covering rust.

Deluxe or Deluxe XL net?

Deluxe is genuinely good and fine for children up to about 14. Take the XL if there are teenagers who get real height, or anyone practising tricks — the extra 30cm is the point.
