Inground trampolines are Ireland's fastest-growing trampoline style — and it's easy to see why. The mat sits just 20cm above ground level, giving your garden a clean, low-profile look while eliminating the need for a ladder to get on and off. For coastal gardens and exposed sites, the reduced height also means significantly less wind resistance than a full above-ground frame.

We stock BERG's full InGround range with free delivery on orders over €300 across all 32 Irish counties, usually within 48 hours. As Ireland's official BERG Premium Dealer since 2020, we can also advise on pit design, drainage, and installation.

Not sure whether inground or flatground is right for your garden? Call us on 01 960 1641 (ROI) or 028 3756 8930 (NI) — we'll help you decide based on your soil type, garden size, and budget.

Why Choose an Inground Trampoline?

  • Safer access — the mat is close to ground level, so children can step on and off easily without a ladder. Particularly good for younger children and those with mobility needs.
  • Better wind resistance — the low profile catches far less wind than a full above-ground frame. Essential for exposed Irish gardens and coastal locations.
  • Cleaner garden look — the frame sits in the ground rather than towering over your lawn. Far less visually dominant than above-ground alternatives.
  • Safer fall profile — if a jumper exits the trampoline, the fall distance to the ground is much shorter than from a full-height above-ground model.

What's Involved in Installation?

An inground trampoline requires a pit to be dug — typically bowl-shaped, approximately 1 metre deep at the centre, becoming shallower towards the edges. BERG publishes exact pit dimensions for each model, and we'll send you the drawing for whichever you choose.

Drainage is critical in Ireland. Clay-heavy Irish soil doesn't drain freely, so a gravel base and drainage provision are usually needed to prevent water pooling in the pit. Without it, the mat will sit in a bog after heavy rain. A gravel sub-base is the minimum; for wetter sites or heavy clay, a soakaway or drainage pipe may be needed. This is the most common issue we see with poorly installed inground trampolines, and we advise on it as part of every inground purchase.

For smaller models (up to 9ft round) the pit can often be hand-dug, though it's physically demanding. For larger models a mini-digger is usually needed. The frame and net assembly is straightforward once the pit is ready — it's the excavation and drainage that require the planning. We work with a network of trusted Irish installers who can handle the lot, so just ask when you order.

Step-by-step fitting instructions are in our BERG InGround installation guide.

InGround vs FlatGround — Which Is Right for You?

Both sit low to the ground, but there are important differences:

  • InGround — the frame sits around a bowl-shaped pit, with the top of the frame still visible above ground. Easier to install and more forgiving of uneven ground. The right choice for most Irish families.
  • FlatGround — the frame sits completely flush with the lawn surface, so the trampoline effectively disappears into the garden. Requires more precise groundworks and suits level, well-drained sites.

For most Irish gardens, InGround gives you most of FlatGround's look at meaningfully less cost and complexity. If your site is level and drains well, browse the FlatGround range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How deep does the hole need to be for an inground trampoline?

Around 1 metre deep at the centre, in a bowl shape that becomes shallower towards the edges. A 9ft model needs a smaller pit than a 14ft one, and BERG publishes exact dimensions per model — tell us which you're considering and we'll send the drawing.

Do inground trampolines need drainage in Ireland?

In most cases yes. Irish clay soils don't drain freely, so without a gravel base and drainage provision the pit can fill with water after rain. This is the single most common problem with DIY inground installations. A gravel sub-base is the minimum; heavy clay or a wet site needs a soakaway or drainage pipe.

Can I install an inground trampoline myself?

For smaller models on soft ground, hand-digging is possible but hard work. For anything above 9ft, a mini-digger is strongly recommended. Assembly of the frame and net is straightforward once the pit is ready. We can connect you with trusted local installers across Ireland — just ask.

Are inground trampolines safer than above-ground?

They offer different safety advantages. The lower access height removes ladder-related falls, and the shorter drop if a child exits the mat is a genuine benefit. A safety enclosure net is still strongly recommended even on inground models, particularly near fences, patios or hard surfaces.

What are the drawbacks of an inground trampoline?

Three, and we'd rather you knew them now. The pit costs money and effort to dig. Drainage has to be done properly or you'll regret it. And once it's in, moving it is a job. If any of those are dealbreakers, an above-ground model on anchors is a perfectly good answer.

How much does installation cost?

It depends on access, soil and model size. Hand-digging a small pit costs you a weekend. A mini-digger and installer for a 14ft model is a bigger number. Ring us with your garden details and we'll give you a realistic range before you commit.

Customer Reviews:

I contacted Trampolines at short notice & late in the evening with a query about a Berg Cart for my son's birthday. Gary responded immediately and since the initial contact to the delivery of the cart, the service has been excellent with updates and support. I had an issue putting the cart together which was own mistake but Gary's support was again excellent, Thanks Gary, appreciate all your help and kind support - James (Mayo)

Our trampoline arrived and has being assembled. Our son (13) loves it. We have had trampolines since he was three but this one is amazing. Hope to get many years from it. My friends have their springless trampoline 22 years and it is still in great condition.
Best wishes
