The Original Family Go-Kart, Built to BERG Standards
The BERG Gran Tour 4-seater is the go-kart you've seen at holiday parks, glamping sites and family resorts across Europe — and now you can own one. Two adults pedal from the rear seats. Two children ride up front in dedicated child seats with retractable seatbelts. Everyone goes the same direction. Everyone has fun.
This isn't a child's toy scaled up. It's a properly engineered family pedal vehicle built by BERG, the Dutch manufacturer that has spent over four decades perfecting the pedal go-kart. The frame is built to take a 350kg total user weight. The steering is geometry-tuned for stability at speed. The brakes are real brakes — hand brake and parking brake on the rear wheels, not just a coaster brake.
It's also a serious investment piece. The Gran Tour is the model BERG sells to commercial rental operators because it survives constant use without complaint. That same build quality is what makes it a once-in-a-lifetime garden purchase for the right family.
Racer vs Off-Road — Which Should You Choose?
The Gran Tour Racer and Gran Tour Off-Road share an identical frame, identical seating, identical brakes and identical freewheel transmission. The only meaningful difference is the wheels — and that one difference determines where you can drive it.
BERG Gran Tour Racer — €3,159
Built for tarmac, smooth driveways, and resort paths.
The Racer rolls on narrow, low-wear rubber racing wheels mounted on lightweight aluminium rims. The narrower contact patch means less rolling resistance, so pedalling feels lighter and faster on smooth surfaces. The styling matches — black chassis, orange race-style seats, sporty stance.
This is the model to choose if your driveway is paved, your roads are sealed, or you're buying for a glamping or holiday park property where guests will mostly stay on hardstanding paths.
Not suitable for: loose gravel, wet grass, mud, sand, or unsealed surfaces. The narrow tyres dig in and steering becomes unpredictable.
BERG Gran Tour Off-Road — €3,039
Built for grass, gravel, dirt tracks and farm lanes.
The Off-Road sits on 18" all-terrain pneumatic tyres with a deep tread pattern. The wider footprint and softer compound grip on grass, dirt, gravel and even shallow mud. The slightly smaller diameter compared to the Racer means pedalling feels marginally lighter, which matters when you're pulling four people up an incline.
This is the model most Irish families end up choosing. If your garden runs to grass, if you live rurally, or if you have a mix of surfaces, the Off-Road handles all of them. It's also €120 cheaper than the Racer — the only model in the BERG range where the more capable version is the less expensive one.
Also works on: tarmac and smooth surfaces, though you'll feel a touch more rolling resistance than the Racer.

Our honest recommendation: Unless you're 100% certain you'll only ever drive on smooth tarmac, choose the Off-Road. Irish weather, Irish gardens and Irish driveways are rarely the perfectly sealed environment the Racer needs. The Off-Road is more versatile, more forgiving, and costs less.
Key Features (Both Models)
- Seats 4 — two adults at the rear, two children at the front. The driver pedals from the rear-left, with a passenger to the rear-right. Front child seats include retractable seatbelts.
- Rear-pedal drive with freewheel transmission. Forward pedalling drives the rear wheels; lift your feet and the kart coasts freely without the pedals spinning. Freewheel is mounted on both rear seats so either back seat can pedal — or both at once.
- Hand brake plus parking brake on the rear wheels. Stop instantly, park safely on a slope.
- Heavy-duty swing axle. BERG's reinforced swing axle handles uneven ground without flexing the frame — important on Irish gardens that are rarely perfectly level.
- Adjustable rear seats. Riders from roughly 1.45m up to 2m tall all fit comfortably.
- Stands upright for storage. The Gran Tour tilts onto its back wheels to park vertically against a wall — saving roughly two square metres of floor space when not in use.
- Almost maintenance-free. Sealed bearings, replaceable rear axles, easily adjusted chain tension. The Gran Tour has been a commercial-rental staple for two decades because it survives without constant servicing.
- Built to last. The frame, drivetrain and core components are engineered for commercial rental life cycles. In domestic use, expect a decade of regular family riding.

Add a Sunroof
The optional BERG Gran Tour Sunroof (€399) clips onto either model and gives all four riders shade and rain cover. It adds roughly 63cm to overall height (total height with sunroof: 170cm). Particularly worth considering for commercial use, holiday rental properties, or any setup where the kart will be out in all weathers.
Who the Gran Tour is For
Families with mixed ages. The four-seat layout means parents and kids ride together. No-one is left out, no-one is too small. Two parents pedal, two children sit safely up front.
Rural properties with land. If you've got a long driveway, paddocks, a campsite, glamping site or holiday rental, the Gran Tour is the showpiece outdoor experience. We've supplied dozens of these to Irish glamping and caravan operators.
Family resorts and holiday parks. The Gran Tour is BERG's commercial rental flagship for a reason — it survives heavy daily use, and BERG's parts network keeps it running.
Anyone wanting an active, screen-free family activity. Pedalling four people across a field is genuinely hard work. It's also genuinely fun. The Gran Tour is exercise disguised as an adventure.
Not for: small suburban gardens (you need space — figure on a 6m turning circle minimum), or households where it'll only ever carry one person (a single-seater BFR-3 like the Black Edition is a better fit and costs less).
Delivery & Assembly
Delivery: Free delivery on all Gran Tour orders (no surcharge for Northern Ireland). In-stock models ship within 48 hours; the Gran Tour is large and may take 3–5 working days for the courier to schedule. We'll always confirm a delivery window in advance.
Assembly: The Gran Tour arrives partly assembled. Expect roughly 2 hours of work with basic tools — you'll need to fit the wheels, attach the seats, and connect the steering column. Full instructions are included and we provide phone support if you get stuck. Note: BERG's published guidance is that technical experience helps with assembly. If you'd prefer a fully assembled delivery, contact us for a quote.
Once assembled: No motor or electric conversion is possible on the Gran Tour. If you want an electric family kart, see the BERG E-Gran Tour.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can two adults really pedal this comfortably? Yes. The Gran Tour was originally designed for adult-pedalled use — adults pedal from the rear, children sit up front. Two coordinated adult pedallers can comfortably move the kart up gentle inclines with two children on board. Steep hills are hard work; flat ground is easy.
Can a child pedal it solo? The pedals are sized and positioned for adult legs. A tall teenager can pedal it, but the Gran Tour isn't designed as a child-pedalled vehicle. For under-12s as the primary driver, a single-seat BFR-3 model is more suitable.
Can I add an electric motor? No. The Gran Tour's drivetrain is purely mechanical. If you want electric assistance, look at the BERG E-Gran Tour, which is a separate model with a built-in motor.
Does the Off-Road work on tarmac? Yes — the all-terrain tyres are fine on sealed surfaces. You'll feel slightly more rolling resistance than the Racer, but for the versatility it's almost always the better choice in Ireland.
Can the Racer be used on grass? Briefly, on dry firm grass — yes. On wet, soft, or long grass, the narrow tyres dig in and steering becomes difficult. The Racer is genuinely a tarmac-first model.
How much space does it need? Plan for a 6-metre turning circle. The kart itself is 197cm long and 102–150cm wide depending on model. For storage, it can tilt vertically to save floor space.
Is there a warranty? Yes — 2 years standard, extended to 5 years if you register the product online with BERG within one month of purchase. We'll send the registration link with your delivery confirmation.
Can I see one in Ireland before I buy? Get in touch — we can arrange viewings of select BERG models. Most Gran Tour buyers order based on the spec and a phone consultation, and we're happy to walk you through the decision.
