BERG vs Springfree Round Trampolines — The Honest Ireland Comparison
By Gary and the Trampolines Ireland Team — Ireland's official BERG Premium Dealer and sole Springfree stockist. We sell and service both brands every day across Ireland.
The round trampoline is the classic — the shape most people picture when they think "trampoline". It's the most popular configuration sold in Ireland by a wide margin, partly because it suits square or square-ish gardens, and partly because the bounce pattern naturally pushes jumpers back to the centre, which makes it the safest shape for younger children jumping solo.
This guide compares every round trampoline from BERG and Springfree side by side: nine BERG models across three quality tiers (Favorit, Champion, Elite) and four Springfree models (R30, R54, R79, R132). We stock and service every one. This is our honest take on which to buy.
Quick Answer: Which Round Should You Buy?
- Tightest budget, smallest garden: BERG Favorit 200 (€409) — Ireland's lowest-priced quality round trampoline.
- Best entry-level Springfree: Springfree R54 8ft (€1,399) — premium safety at the smaller end.
- Best all-rounder for most families: BERG Champion 380 (€1,259) — the size most Irish families end up choosing.
- Best value premium round: Springfree R79 10ft (€1,599) — Springfree's most popular model, for good reason.
- Bouncy fun for kids: BERG Champion 430 (€1,389) — 128 springs and a 14ft diameter.
- Largest, longest-lasting: Springfree R132 13ft (€2,199) — the biggest round Springfree make.
- Best inground round: BERG Champion 430 InGround (€1,389) — Springfree don't offer a true inground option.
- Built to last 15+ years: Springfree R79 or R132 — 10-year all-parts warranty.
- Maximum sport/elite use: BERG Elite 430 (€1,759) — 128 springs in the premium tier with 13-year frame warranty.
The rest of this guide explains why.
Why Choose a Round Trampoline?
Round trampolines do one thing very well: they keep jumpers in the centre. The springs around the perimeter all pull toward the middle of the mat, so a jumper who drifts off-centre is naturally returned toward the middle. For households with younger children who haven't yet learned to control where they land, this is a genuine safety feature.
Round is also the shape that fits best in a square or roughly-square Irish garden. You lose the corners of the lawn either way, but with a round trampoline at least the lost space is symmetric rather than long-and-thin.
What round trampolines are not ideal for: serious gymnastics, sport-level trick training, or households with multiple older children jumping together. The single central bounce zone means only one person can really jump at a time without risk of collision. For multi-jumper households, an oval or rectangular is usually a better choice.
The Two Brands' Design Philosophies
If you've read our oval or rectangular comparison, skip this section. If this is your first read, here's the key difference:
BERG uses springs. Specifically, BERG's Twinspring and Gold Spring systems sit around the perimeter of the mat. Springs give a familiar, lively bounce — the kind anyone who's ever been on a trampoline will recognise. BERG has spent four decades optimising spring count to mat tension; that's why a Favorit 380 has 80 springs and a Champion 380 has 112. More springs spread the load and produce a more controlled, longer-lasting bounce.
Springfree uses composite rods. These are flexible fibreglass-reinforced rods that sit underneath the mat, completely hidden from view. The mat is attached to the rods, which flex to absorb the jumper's weight. There are no springs anywhere on the trampoline. The bounce feel is softer, more progressive — less of a sharp "pop" at the top, more of a smooth lift.
Neither approach is objectively better. They're philosophically different products. Most kids who try a Springfree for the first time say "it feels weird" for about ten minutes, then never notice again. Adults often prefer the lower-impact landing. Teenagers who want maximum trick height typically prefer BERG.
Full Size and Spec Comparison
Here's every round trampoline from both brands, side by side, sorted by size.
| Brand | Model | Diameter | Mat Area | Max User Weight | Springs/Rods | 2026 ROI Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BERG | Favorit 200 | 200 cm / 6.6 ft | ~30 sq ft | 50 kg | 36 springs | €409 |
| Springfree | R30 | 6 ft (180 cm) | ~30 sq ft | — | Rods | €1,199 |
| BERG | Favorit 270 | 270 cm / 9 ft | ~57 sq ft | 70 kg | 48 springs | €539 |
| Springfree | R54 | 8 ft (240 cm) | 54 sq ft | — | Rods | €1,399 |
| BERG | Favorit 330 | 330 cm / 11 ft | ~85 sq ft | 100 kg | 72 springs | €659 |
| BERG | Champion 330 | 330 cm / 11 ft | ~85 sq ft | 100 kg | 96 springs | €1,119 |
| BERG | Elite 330 | 330 cm / 11 ft | ~85 sq ft | 100 kg | 96 springs | €1,449 |
| Springfree | R79 | 10 ft (305 cm) | 79 sq ft | — | Rods | €1,599 |
| BERG | Favorit 380 | 380 cm / 12.5 ft | ~113 sq ft | 110 kg | 80 springs | €769 |
| BERG | Champion 380 | 380 cm / 12.5 ft | ~113 sq ft | 100 kg | 112 springs | €1,259 |
| BERG | Elite 380 | 380 cm / 12.5 ft | ~113 sq ft | 110 kg | 112 springs | €1,639 |
| BERG | Favorit 430 | 430 cm / 14 ft | ~145 sq ft | 120 kg | 96 springs | €869 |
| BERG | Champion 430 | 430 cm / 14 ft | ~145 sq ft | 120 kg | 128 springs | €1,389 |
| BERG | Elite 430 | 430 cm / 14 ft | ~145 sq ft | 120 kg | 128 springs | €1,759 |
| Springfree | R132 | 13 ft (396 cm) | 132 sq ft | — | Rods | €2,199 |
A few things stand out immediately:
The BERG Favorit range is significantly cheaper than anything Springfree offers. A BERG Favorit 380 at €769 gives you 12.5 ft of trampoline for less than half the price of a comparable Springfree R79 at €1,599. That's a meaningful difference — and at this price point BERG is the obvious answer for budget-conscious families.
Springfree's value gets stronger as the size increases. The R30 at €1,199 looks expensive against a BERG Favorit 200 at €409. But the R79 at €1,599 vs a BERG Champion 380 at €1,259 is much closer — and once you factor in Springfree's 10-year warranty, the gap narrows further.
BERG offers three tiers at every size from 330cm up. Favorit (entry), Champion (premium) and Elite (elite/public use). The same diameter can cost €659 (Favorit 330) or €1,449 (Elite 330) — same jumping area, very different build quality, spring count and warranty.
Springfree doesn't tier its rounds the same way. Every Springfree round includes the same FlexiNet, SoftEdge mat and hidden frame regardless of size — you're not paying for "Premium Springfree" vs "Standard Springfree", because there's only one quality level.
Inground and Flatground: BERG's Round Advantage
Every BERG round (Favorit, Champion and Elite) is available in three configurations:
- Regular (above-ground) — standard install on legs
- InGround — sunk into a dug hole, mat sits at ground level
- FlatGround — completely flush with the lawn, no visible frame (Champion and Elite tiers)
Critically for buyers, the price for inground is identical or near-identical to above-ground in the BERG range. A Champion 430 Regular is €1,389. A Champion 430 InGround is €1,389. You're not paying a premium for the inground configuration — you're choosing a different frame setup that comes in the box.
What you do need to organise yourself is the hole. For Irish customers we recommend a landscaper or installer with experience digging trampoline holes; we can suggest specifications and have a full hole-size guide here.
Springfree does not make a true inground round. Their composite rod system requires clearance underneath the mat for the rods to flex. While some recessed installations are possible in certain markets, the BERG-style flush-to-ground install isn't part of the Springfree product line.
If you want an inground round trampoline, your choice is BERG. There isn't really an alternative.
Inground hole dimensions for BERG rounds:
- 330 cm: hole is approximately 330 cm diameter
- 380 cm: hole is approximately 380 cm diameter
- 430 cm: hole is approximately 430 cm diameter
- Depth tapers from shallow at the perimeter to roughly 80-90 cm at the deepest centre point
Safety: Where Springfree Pulls Ahead
The case for Springfree's safety architecture is straightforward and worth being honest about.
The most common cause of trampoline injuries is contact with springs and the steel frame. Springfree eliminates both. There are no springs to land on. The steel frame is hidden underneath the mat, so a falling jumper can't strike it. The enclosure is attached to the flexible composite rods rather than to rigid steel poles, which means even the netting flexes if a child runs into it at speed.
BERG's safety nets are excellent by industry standards. The Comfort and Deluxe systems use padded poles, high netting and well-engineered zip entries. In normal use, a child who follows basic trampoline safety (one at a time, jump in the centre, no somersaults without supervision) is at very low risk. The springs themselves are covered by a padded spring guard, so contact with springs is only a risk if the guard is damaged or if a jumper deliberately lands on the spring zone.
The honest summary: for older children, teenagers and adults who jump responsibly, BERG's safety architecture is more than adequate. For toddlers, special-needs jumpers, anxious parents, or any household where the trampoline will see use by very young children, Springfree's design is genuinely the safer product. We've donated Springfree trampolines through the Bounce for Autism initiative to several Irish special schools precisely because the safety case for sensory-sensitive users is materially stronger.
Warranty and Longevity
| Brand | Tier | Frame | Mat / Springs / Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| Springfree | All rounds | 10 years | 10 years |
| BERG | Favorit | 5 years | 2 years |
| BERG | Champion | 8 years | 5 years |
| BERG | Elite | 13 years | 5 years |
Springfree's 10-year all-component warranty is the strongest in the industry. The whole trampoline — frame, mat, rods, net — is covered for a decade. Practically, we've seen Springfree trampolines installed in 2014–2016 still in regular use today with original components.
BERG's tiered warranty mirrors the tiered product. The Favorit is built to a price; its 2-year mat warranty reflects that. The Champion is the middle ground — 8-year frame, 5-year wear parts — and represents probably the best longevity-for-money in the BERG range. The Elite has a 13-year frame warranty, the longest of any BERG product, but the mat and springs are still covered for 5 years.
In practice for normal family use:
- BERG Favorit: Expect 5–8 years of family life; mat may need replacement at the 5-year mark.
- BERG Champion: Expect 8–12 years; mat may need replacement around year 7–9.
- BERG Elite: Expect 10–15 years; the frame will outlast the springs.
- Springfree (any model): Expect 12–15+ years with original components if properly covered.
Bounce Performance
This is where it's easiest to overstate brand differences, so let's be precise.
BERG rounds bounce higher per unit of effort. The spring system is more energy-efficient at returning a jumper to the top of their arc. A 35kg child gets noticeably more lift on a BERG Champion 380 than on a Springfree R79. If your priority is "bouncy fun", BERG wins.
Springfree rounds bounce softer and more progressive. The rod system absorbs more of the landing impact and returns it more gradually. Adults who use the trampoline themselves often prefer this feel. Younger children sometimes find it less exciting because the dramatic up-and-down of a sprung trampoline is reduced.
Within the BERG range, the bounce quality goes up with the tier. A Favorit 380 with 80 springs bounces lower and softer than a Champion 380 with 112 springs. The Elite uses the same spring count as the Champion at each size, but with a stronger frame and longer warranty. If pure bounce performance matters, Champion gives you the best bounce-for-money; Favorit gives you a tier-appropriate bounce at a lower price point.
Irish-Specific Considerations
A few things that genuinely matter in Ireland but rarely come up in generic trampoline guides:
Wind and storms. Irish gardens get battered. Both brands are well-engineered for normal weather, but inground installation (BERG only) eliminates wind risk almost entirely. Above-ground trampolines should always be anchored — we sell anchor kits for both brands. After Storm Éowyn in early 2026 we had zero reports of inground trampoline damage and a handful of above-ground enclosure damage on both BERG and Springfree.
Garden gradient. If your garden has a slope, BERG's above-ground frame is more forgiving — you can level the legs with simple shims. Springfree's rod system needs a fairly flat install surface. Inground BERG requires a properly levelled hole regardless of surface gradient.
Replacement parts availability. We stock the full range of BERG replacement parts in Ireland — mats, springs, nets, pads, poles. BERG parts are typically dispatched same-day or next-day. Springfree parts are imported on demand and usually take 7–14 days to arrive in Ireland. For active jumping households, BERG's parts availability is a meaningful advantage; for Springfree owners where parts are needed every few years rather than every season, the delay is rarely an issue.
Delivery to ROI and NI. Both brands ship to anywhere on the island. In-stock items typically deliver within 48 hours. Inground configurations and larger sizes may take 7–10 days depending on stock at the BERG and Springfree warehouses.
Bounce for Autism. As Ireland's BERG Premium Dealer and sole Springfree stockist, we co-founded the Bounce for Autism initiative with BERG and the Irish Society for Autism. Over 50 Irish special schools now have trampolines donated through the programme. Every purchase through us contributes to that work.
Verdict by Buyer Type
Tightest budget, smaller garden, young child: BERG Favorit 200 (€409) or 270 (€539). Ireland's lowest-priced quality round trampolines. The 200 is the size you choose for a single small child up to 50kg; the 270 covers two siblings up to 70kg each. Both come with proper BERG safety nets and the 2/5-year warranty.
Budget-conscious family with mid-size garden: BERG Favorit 380 (€769) or 430 (€869). 12.5 to 14 ft of trampoline at a price that's hard to match anywhere on the Irish market. The bounce is BERG-tier-1 but more than adequate for a family of normal-jumping kids.
Best balance of bounce, build quality and price: BERG Champion 380 (€1,259) or Champion 430 (€1,389). The Champion 380 is the size and tier the largest number of Irish families end up at. 112 springs, 5-year mat warranty, 8-year frame warranty, professional-grade Deluxe safety net. If you can stretch the budget, the Champion 430 InGround at the same price is even better — same trampoline, flush with the ground.
Premium safety-conscious household: Springfree R79 10ft (€1,599) or R132 13ft (€2,199). You're paying for the safety architecture and the 10-year warranty. The R79 is Springfree's best-selling round worldwide; the R132 is the biggest round they make. Both will outlive most family pets and several family cars.
Inground installation: BERG Champion 430 InGround (€1,389) is the model we sell most into inground installs. The combination of 14ft diameter, 128-spring bounce, and flush-to-ground safety is hard to beat at the price. Champion 380 InGround (€1,259) is the same proposition at a smaller size.
Sport, elite or near-public use: BERG Elite 430 (€1,759) or Elite 380 (€1,639). The Elite tier is BERG's premium build, with a 13-year frame warranty designed for high-use environments. Schools, clubs, and serious sport households are the natural buyers.
The trampoline that has to outlive the family pet, the family car, and possibly the family: Springfree R79 or R132. Nothing else on this list has a 10-year all-parts warranty backed by a real product expectation of 15+ years.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are round trampolines safer than rectangular? Generally yes, for younger children. The spring geometry on a round trampoline returns jumpers to the centre, reducing the risk of off-mat falls. Rectangular trampolines deliver a more powerful, sport-style bounce that's harder to control — better for skilled jumpers, less ideal for unsupervised young children.
What size round trampoline should I buy? The honest answer: as big as your garden comfortably takes, with at least 1.5m clearance around the entire trampoline. Most Irish families fit a 380cm (12.5ft) or 430cm (14ft) model. For very small gardens, the 200cm or 270cm BERG Favorit works for a single child. Springfree's R30 6ft is the smallest premium round on the market.
Is the BERG Favorit good enough, or should I stretch to a Champion? The Favorit is a genuinely well-made trampoline at its price point. If you have one or two normal-weight children and budget is tight, the Favorit is the right answer. If you have heavier or older jumpers, or you want the trampoline to last beyond 8 years, the Champion is the better long-term value despite the higher upfront price.
Can I install a BERG round trampoline inground myself? Possible, but most customers hire a landscaper or installer. The hole needs to be dug to the right diameter, depth and bowl shape. Once the hole is correct, the frame assembles in 2–3 hours. We provide all the specifications and can recommend installers we've worked with previously.
Is Springfree worth twice the price of a BERG Favorit? For households where safety is the primary buying criterion, yes. For households where bounce performance, inground installation or maximum trampoline-per-euro matter more, BERG is the better buy. The Springfree warranty alone (10 years all-parts) closes a lot of the price gap when amortised over 15 years of expected use.
How long do these trampolines actually last in Ireland? With a weather cover, anchoring against wind, and normal family use: BERG Favorit 5–8 years, BERG Champion 8–12 years, BERG Elite 10–15 years, Springfree 12–15+ years. The single biggest factor in longevity is whether the trampoline is covered when not in use during winter.
What's the difference between Champion and Elite in the BERG range? The Elite uses the same spring count as the Champion at each diameter, but with a heavier, stronger frame, a longer frame warranty (13 years vs 8 years), and slightly higher-grade components throughout. The Elite is designed for near-public-use durability. For most family installs, Champion is the right tier; for schools, clubs or households where the trampoline will see very heavy use, Elite is worth the upgrade.
